We think Compaq’s 4Q is on track; downside exposure from its consumer segment appears minimal as long as current demand trends hold. We think Europe continues to improve for Compaq. Concerns voiced yesterday about possible pre-announcements, etc. are totally unsupported by our checks. ? Compaq is now trading at 16x next year’s consensus, well below the stock’s historical discount to the market. We expect the stock to regain lost ground as Compaq shows another solid quarter driven by demand strength in enterprise and execution improvements in its lower-end commercial businesses. Compaq’s consumer segment gets way too much scrutiny, in our view.
