"My contention remains, if you re-count the whole state of Florida Bush still wins. By counting only a few Democratic counties, of course Gore has a chance to win. I know, I know, Bush had a chance to do the same and how big of a mess would that have been? That, IMO, is why the Republicans didn't request it."

I disagree. The same Republicans who were investigating their chances of broadening recounts to Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico and Oregon, also knew that the highest rates of machine-uncountable punch card ballots correlated with the Gore strongholds in the State of Florida. When the mechanical recount went forward, a number of counties had no or insignificant changes. They were the generally Republican areas that used optical scanners and other, newer technologies. This twist was reported at least a week ago.
