Cheeky's assertion was wrong to begin with. It is harder (and requires more courage) to be negative on a stock. The historical trend of stocks has been up up up, so the probabilities are already stacked against you. Second, it goes against the optimistic grain of Americans. You risk social reprobation for being skeptical. Third, it is easier to look right in a bull market if you are long. What is it the old hands say, "A bull market makes anyone look like a stock picking genius"?

Cheeky is not just being cheeky, he is being wrong.
