I agree that the roles generally would be reversed were the candidates in the reverse situation. There's a couple of very big differences, however.

First, Bush runs the risk of being outed as the only U.S. president ever to have lost both the national popular vote and the electoral college vote.

How you think he's gonna feel when presidential historians and doctoral candidates use the Freedom of Information Act in order to produce the real final vote tally in Florida?

Secondly, in the Olympics or in virtually any event where a tie is trying to be determined, the two contestents don't duke it out while awaiting the final result. In fact, in every political race I'm aware of where a recount has been requested, the two candidates set back and let the count take place. Bush is the first and only candidate I've ever seen behave in manner he has.
