Why do you say "blindly"? Do you really think the GOP is meaningfully reaching out to blacks or can offer them anything but tokenism? A ticket up on stage with Condaleeza Rice and Colin Powell? Membership in a 90% white party?

I know some disagree or deny but there is a great nasty unspoken battle going on this country and it's been going on for many decades. At its core it's mainly between conservative white men, heavy industry, rural and religious types versus not only cultural liberals and union members but the entire underclass of minorities and struggling working people. Though Lincoln was a Republican there is an air of the confederacy still at play especially as southern white men dominate the GOP these days and liberal moderates are a dying breed. Bush Sr. used to be a Rockefellar republican but he changed his tune. That's why his son is now allowed to lead the party. Also because of a ton of oil money behind them.

At its extreme its socialism vs. fascism, racism and sexism vs white man's burden, polluters vs. environment, pacifists vs. hawks.

Of course most people are in the middle of these extremes somewhere or a mixture of various leanings. Still BLACKS KNOW THE CODE LANGUAGE beneath the rhetoric. They hear the real message of the GOP which is WE DO NOT REPRESENT YOU unless you become one of us and speak for us. Their astounding 90% pro-Gore support proves this. Almost none were fooled by the masquerade bal of the GOP convention.

Blacks know the GOP hasn't been the Party of Lincoln for a long-long time. Though of course there are exceptions. I'm sure Condy Rice and any black friends she has would disagree.

Unification sounds like a better and better idea.
But can it happen? Can it ever happen? Only if we become a much more moderate nation? And doesn't that blow your mind that Nader colaims the Dems and GOP are one and the same. Personally I don't buy that at all. But kmaybe a lot closer than we think. Which might even be a good thing.
