I'll be blunt, I don't like Jesse, and I never have. I think he wanders around looking for trouble, and to be quite frank, he's hard for me to understand when he speaks.
His son, on the other hand, is quite literate and I like the guy a lot.
The other thing is that there is racial prejudice in Florida. I was on vacation down there several times, and I saw it. Some whiteys just assume that everyone else is the same way they are, and they say things that they wouldn't say on TV. The first time I heard one of these yoyos say something really nasty, I was actually quite shocked, because I had never been around any rabid racists.
It's not a simple issue to discuss rationally, because emotions can get rather worked up. I've been discriminated against on hundreds of occasions, not for my skin color, but for other reasons. It has a tendency to really piss you off at some point. So I have some small understanding of it.
The last time I heard some bonehead make a derogatory remark about somebody with dark skin, I walked up to him and asked him what color his soul was. <G> He hemmed and hawed for a few seconds and then apologized to me. He seemed sincere. |
