U. S. Grant was an alcoholic, even being rumored to get hammered before and during battles. It was reported to Lincoln, since the Union was committing it's last army to this one man. Lincoln said "Find out what he's drinking, and issue it to all my generals." I think it's regular Liberal Libel to call GWB an alcoholic. The 24-year-old-arrest story was released for the same reasons they are still fighting in Florida: To steal the presidency even at the risk of the nation. Power is an obsession of the Left, while usually not aspired to nearly enough by the Right. But GWB has more than three strikes against him with the Left. What they REALLY HATE is: He's a patriot. He threatens the Clinton personality cult. He won. He reformed in the intervening years by finding solace in Christianity-the Left's most hated religion. His policies are intended to make the country stronger, rather than the opposite, as is their preference. Once he's in, it may be very hard to win the presidency back for a very many cycles. So for them, as now with us, the war will not end with an inauguration...
