Neo,

I know there are still some areas that appear to be country, but are they really. If deer must come to town to feed, and get hit by cars, something is wrong, IMO. If racoons and foxes must eat from trash cans, something is wrong. Even in what you call rural areas, I'll bet the streams of water are polluted to a certain degree. Chicken farms stink to high heaven, and the packing plants are even worse. I spent a year on the high desert of Nevada, and even in such a remote area, the taint of "progress" is on the land, and the people that have lived there for millenia. Everywhere I have gone lately, I have seen land stripped of vegetation to make room for housing that is either too close together, or stacked on top of each other in the form of apartments or condos. The Rocky Mountains are covered with ski areas and tourist enclaves. I can drive only 5 minutes to rural locations, but they are tainted by the contraptions of modern man. I guess I am looking for "pristine" and it just ain't around anymore. Being on a mountain top, in a log cabin, may appear to be roughing it, but the roar of a semi down on the Interstate just ruins the mood.
