Today's debacle du jour (Gateway) is living proof of what Mr. Fishman's been saying for three quarters now, that we are in the early stages of a pronounced secular (as oppopsed to cyclical) shift away from basic computer processing to specialty communications processors and ic's.

Are set-top boxes, PDA's, pagers, cell phones, cable modems, etc. all heading into an bear market inventory correction? Will base stations stop building? Will Central Offices shut down? Will the myriad OEM's who incorparate ADI solutions into their products cease to build? I doubt it.

Might there be a few pockets of softness here and there along the way? Sure, but with ADI's depth and breadth of products, they'll likely weather the storm better than most, if not all.

Will ADI get downgraded today just the same, since Wall Street can't help but lump all these guys together? You betcha.

My patience for these experts is "capacity constrained". Now where have I heard that phrase before??? It wasn't from Altera.

PS: I just returned from a week in Las Vegas where it's easier to make money on blackjack than on a market leader like ADI. Something's wrong with this picture!
