Nortel and Datang in CDMA-Alliance

CHINA, November 30, AsiaPort -- Nortel Network and Datang, a Chinese player in
telecom facilities, signed a long-term cooperative agreement to jointly promote the
application of wireless Internet solutions. Under the agreement, the two sides will
develop CDMA (code division multiple access) products and upgrade Datang's CDMA
to CDMA 2000. Nortel claims a dominant market position in all the major 2G and 3G
wireless technologies, while Datang is one of the four telecom equipment suppliers in
China with sales of US$ 1.9 billion in 1999.
