Juniper,

My understanding is exactly like yours in that Intel has spent countless
engineering months working on their SVGL scanners to meet and exceed
the specifications. This is hardly what Intel would like to do with
their engineering resources. If another scanner manufacturer comes along
with a product with tighter specs then I expect Intel to move to that
vendor. It is pretty common knowledge also about the early reliability
problems with SVGL scanners. This info can be readily gotten from
anyone associated with Sematech. Issues regarding equipment uptime
and time between failures has been problematic for the SVGL systems.

BTW, as I am sure that you are aware, SVGL currently has a dominate
position in DUV scanners. I would "guess" that they are booked solid
for shipments through 1998. So any issues with the stock will not
affect SVGL soon ... unless a major customer (Intel or IBM) commits
to another vendor !! I don't particularly want to see a replay of the
GCA situation.
