Ben: I don't know about iMODE - iMODE is a very limited part of any wireless system. It's the PHCM equivalent of the WAP microbrowser. However, NTT is building a global franchise of WCDMA. NTT has been aggressively investing in wireless companies around the world to put together a global UMTS service. I think this is extraordinarily positive for the development of WCDMA. Nobody in their right minds could expect WCDMA to be delivered before 2002, except for a limited offering in Japan by May 2001. All of the analyst models have been using 2003 as their target date for WCDMA. Nothing is going to stop QCOM from collecting the royalties and selling the chipsets for WCDMA now!!
