<Bet this was done for the love of gore.<

Maybe, just maybe it was done by officers who take their oath and military regulations seriously. Keeping the military from getting involved with politics has been the MOST stabilizing aspect of our system for the last 130 years(since it ran out of control during the civil war).

I know most Republicans don't like to think, but, they should try it once in a while. If military personnel start getting involved in politics, criticizing their civilian leaders, etc., then the military will become subject to loyalty examinations by each incoming administration. Each new government will try to weed out people who it thinks will cause trouble for it. This will cause huge problems. As qualified people of different persuasions will be lost for no reason.

This is why the existing regs are in place and the people in charge are right to make sure they are adhered to.
