Don't kill the messenger. Al the best governments in the world occasionally help their needy and pay for a safety net. Even the "compassionate conservative" himself talks about the need for that. As for the code words, when blacks hear Bush wouldn't give the family of James Byrd any sympathy or help that means a lot to them. Denying there are hate crimes "all murder is hate" is a lie and a deflection. Bush was pandering to the racists on that one. And when Bush talks about down-sizing government the minorities know what that means too. They will be the first to go. Just telling it like it is whether you like it or not. Smaller government really means less help for the poor and struggling, as well as less protection for the environment, and cuts in education and health care.
