Why only four heavily Democratic counties? That is what Florida law allowed for. It specificly says that up to four counties could be recounted by hand. Bush has blocked that, with the help of Katherine Harris. I'm always amazed at how the knee-jerk conservatives will take such a passionate stand on issues they haven't done even minimal diligence toward. All it takes is for some AM radio jockey to make a claim and you believe it whole cloth. The Florida law is reasonably clear, a candidate has 72 hours to request a hand recount in up to 4 counties. Gore requested his count within the time period. Were it not for Katherine Harris's artificial deadlines the count would have been complete and we wouldn't be wondering who would be on stage in January and who would be in the audience. TP
