There is a school of investing that goes something like this: You have your stock and you have a control cash position. You have them in proportions like 50/50 or 60/40. You re-balance it every so often like every quarter. The moral is that it forces you to take profit or to buy when the stock is low.

I do not subscribe to this method, but it has the element of cash you are asking. You could be missing a great deal of growth if you keep selling your winners.
