Intel has done purchase transactions otherwise they wouldn't have goodwill on their balance sheet (unless the acquired company had goodwill).

I didn't mean Intel never did an acquisition for cash, only that they had done some for stock.

Goodwill is a deductible item in asset acquisitions, but not stock.

As explained in my posting, goodwill simply is not created in a pooling-of-interests, so of course it is not deductible.
