Ya know, Dave... it's actually going to come down to the Canadians embarrassing their southern neighbors (that's US) into taking action. I met with some members of a town planning board, from upstate NY, about two weeks ago. They are contemplating an overbuild where an aging black coax system currently exists, i.c.w. new road construction and a town renewal project.

The topic of awarding a fiber optic franchise came up to homes and MDUs, in addition to municipal services about town. While I couldn't point to any neighboring towns who were employing FTTH yet, I did mention the work being done by several other ventures around the nation, including the GbE loop in Seattle, and in particular, the work being done up in Quebec by the CANet3 people. There is quite a bit of interest there. Of course, most politicians like to grab onto glitz, even if they don't fully understand the implications. Hey, whatever works. Right? ;-)
