CDMA Mobile Auction Slated for Mid-December in China

December 1, 2000 (SEOUL) -- Korean mobile phone players, including Samsung
Electronics Co., Ltd., are now ready to take part in a CDMA mobile action held by the
Chinese government in mid-December.

China Unicom is scheduled to select a mobile phone company that will supply a total of
75 million lines over the next four years.

The Chinese telecom company expressed intent to allow entities and joint local
companies located in China only to take part in the international auction, which is
estimated to value at US$40 billion.

Market sources expect U.S. mobile suppliers operating in China, including Lucent
Technologies Inc. and Motorola Inc., to have an upper hand in the auction rather than
Korean mobile companies, which have yet to proceed with plans to set up a joint mobile
phone in China.
