I agree with your assessment of the situation, and have thought of using options for similar situations. Could you help me out with a quick lesson (send me email if you don't want to post to this thread).

Where do you get info on options trading activity? How do you evaluate prices? Are there spreads and MMs? Any good reference sources?

Thanks for your help. This thing will not stay at 15-17. It's either through the roof (on a buyout, or what will be a most surprising earnings report), or back to the basement.
