C-Cube Microsystems (CUBE, $15.13, BUY) Target (12 Months): $30 Charlie Glavin, CFA 1 415 836 7715 charlie.glavin@csfb.com CSFB Technology Conference: Business Outlook Remains On Track Howard Bailey, CFO of CUBE presented at CSFB’s Technology Conference stating that business has been largely unchanged over the past month and the company is on track with previous guidance, with the recent stock weakness being unwarranted. Keeping this in mind, as a point of valuation to investors that Broadcom just this week acquired VisionTech for almost the same valuation as CUBE’s current market cap. Yet the irony is that we feel CUBE has a superior integrated codec product (VisionTech only has an encoder that it glues with a licensed compression chip from GI, via BRCM) and market-leading solutions for DVD, STB, and satellite products. DVD business continue to be strong (with virtually no DVD-PC revenue) with the increasing prospect of recordable DVDs contributing significant revenues in 2001. We expect a number of customer announcements using CUBE products between now and CES (in January). We reiterate our Buy rating and advocate accumulating the share on current weakness, given the strength and diversity of CUBE’s broad product portfolio. cnetinvestor.com
