Dear RS, The dinkum oil on the latest chips:

The next generation ASIC with the new 13 Kilobit and 8 Kilobit PureVoice vocoder, the MSM 2.2, is a single-chip solution for dual-mode CDMA/analog phones.

It has low power consumption and reduces the complexity of the final product. It provides advantages in terms of physical area, cost and battery life.

It uses Qualcomm's Code Excited Linear Predictive speech coding algorithm. The PureVoice vocoder achieves near wireline voice quality while keeping the average bit rate low to preserve system capacity. The new vocoder can also do speech coding at the 8 Kilobit/sec rate used in some CDMA systems.

This leads the systems integration of CDMA ASICs so that smaller, lighter and cheaper phones can be produced.

More good news from Qualcomm. With that, the phones are heading even quicker into mass acceptance.

I'm sure you are disappointed, but I don't have time to discuss the political Ramifications just now. But briefly, to keep it succinct for you, it means you get more money.
