Farmers and Dams

Stockman,

I don't know where you live....but Idaho is a farm state....and many family farms are "worth" over $5 million. This is one reason you may have heard that so many millionaires live in Idaho. Well, they are the "poorest" millionaires you could ever meet. There is a problem out here, as there is in many farm states. Often, after the owner's death, the family farm must be sold in order to pay taxes. Many farmers can afford life insurance policies......but many can't. It is difficult when your net worth is in land....and that land can't produce enough to even pay the taxes.....and sometimes can't produce enough to put food on the table.

We also have a potential disaster out here. Much of the world's nuclear waste is being shipped here....and stored directly above one of the world's largest underground rivers.....that feeds the Snake....which feeds the Columbia. There is a facility ready to except the waste in another state.....but there is so much "dicking around"...that it seems like it will take years to get resolved.

Add this to the attempt to rip out most of our hydro-electric dams.....the Federal Government's land grab of state land......and the crippling of the logging industry......and you have a group of states out here that have really suffered under Clinton.

The need for a Republican president is much more on people's minds out here...than it may be in other places.
