Nice research work, G.B. Here's reference to VLNC's 10-Q for the 6/30/96 quarter. It states that their battery is a solid polymer electrolyte battery. It post-dates your 3/96 info. It also states that the present (~1 year ago) technology doesn't meet the requirements of the (then) marketplace.

I suppose that the dynamism and complexity of the new technology is making it hard to compare. VLNC was surprisingly detailed in their description, don't you think? Lithium Tech's use of metallic lithium surprised me also because, to my knowledge, the use of this element in metallic form has been difficult because of the problem of metallic migration (read that dendrites) shorting the battery and creating a safety hazard.
