Cary, I keep your profile book-marked in order to read the well-reasoned analysis you write about the semi-equipment sector. During this political season I've even read your views on the presidential election and the two parties involved, wincing most of the time.

But I have to comment on this: Two of the three most important hand recounts were never finished.

I will assume here that one of the counties to which you refer is Miami-Dade. In this county the canvassing board is controlled by Democrats. They stopped their hand recount because it became evident that at best they would not find very many new votes for Gore, and at worst they might turn up new votes for Bush. How did they know this? Because the counting is done by precinct order beginning with number one. The lower numbered precincts were known to favor Gore, and the higher number precincts are populated largely by Cubans known to favor Bush. When the canvassing officials realized that they had not found many votes for Gore before counting the Cuban precincts they decided to stop the hand recount.

One other thing, the Miami Herald reported today that it is known that over 400 felons illegally voted in the Florida election, 75% of them voting for Gore. The article also estimates that 5,000 votes were illegally cast by felons in Florida.
