Sigh. Too bad.
You know, John ... we're all going to die someday.
Which brings me to an event that's weighing heavy on me since I learned yesterday morning that a client of mine who is 49 years old is lying in a hospital in Austin on life support.
Spent a few hours there (it's 3M) this afternoon with his superiors in order to figure out how my project with them will proceed from here in his absence -- which may be permanent.
I do a semi-monthly newsletter for this electronics division -- going into our 10th year.
I spoke with him last Tuesday just before flying up to visit you. He was fine. No cold, flu, etc.
This Tuesday, called and reached his VMX (voice mail). In his message, he said he was off due to illness ... sounded as if he had a bad cold or flu.
Yesterday morning, I learned that he was in intensive care.
Today I learned that he had a "viral infection" that basically has destroyed the muscles supporting his heart.
Remains in intensive care. Two prognoses: #1. heart transplant. #2. They seem to think that his heart, with rest, MIGHT repair itself.
Dick, as I said, is 48 or 49; never smoked a day in his life. To my knowledge (I've worked with him 6-7 years now), he has never taken sick time off. Travelled 50% of his time as national distribution sales manager.
He might not make it, we all are fearing.
Sorry to "vent."
Life sure is unpredictable ... and short, yes?
