The W-CDMA audio/slide Strategy Presentation on the IDC home page is more informative. It describes the migration path and strategic plan to 3G as well as the rationale for focusing on that market at this time. Specific goals are listed in terms of 3G licensing agreements by 2002, specific ASIC/SOC during 2001 - 2003, and new patents over the next 24 months.
