T, I haven't really cut to the bones on them because they don't have optionability, one thing I love about regular Treasuries. But I do know that inflation protection is never as good as the buyer would like and always worse than the seller hoped. The problem is when the adjustment is made and any limits on any given adjustment. After that, it is just supply and demand. When the market gets concerned about Greenspan's printing binge, they buy these. When they think that the faked govt. numbers are the gospel according to Caiphas, they sell these for more pop. Basically, they are defensive issues and will do well when folks feel defensive. When they are their usual offensive selves, watch out. <g>

I do think they are o.k. for retirement accounts, though I can make a lot more income than that at just a bit more risk with my maximum income strategies, so they aren't my cup of tea.
