Neighborhood Network(TM) 100 Megabits-per-second Technology
Leapfrogs Cable Modem and DSL Performance

DENVER, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ --

WideOpenWest, LLC announces the formation of a strategic alliance with SwitchPoint(TM) Networks, Inc., of Orem, Utah, to deploy, through an exclusive licensing agreement, SwitchPoint's last-mile technology into fiber optic broadband networks now being developed by WideOpenWest in Denver, Colorado and in Fort Worth, Texas. The resulting residential service will enable data-intensive applications, such as streaming video, video-teleconferencing, and local caching of high bandwidth content that had been well beyond the bandwidth capacity of Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) and Cable Modems in typical use now for neighborhood network access.

"We have removed the so-called last-mile bottleneck problems that restrict all other residential broadband service providers," said Mark Haverkate, WideOpenWest president & CEO. "Customers in our markets will have, by far, the fastest and best residential Internet access services available today, and they will still pay less than they would for either cable modem or DSL connections."

"We are very excited about expanding our technology into the metro Denver market in alliance with WideOpenWest," said Keith Anderson, Chief Technical Officer for SwitchPoint Networks. "Our residential Internet technology solution delivers unprecedented bi-directional digital communications performance. Moreover, the technology has already been successfully deployed in test sites in Utah, and it has proven to be a reliable and a cost-effective applications platform for network operators such as WideOpenWest."

WideOpenWest has been awarded new broadband franchises in 13 cities along Colorado's Front Range representing 780,000 homes. The company also has 600,000 homes under franchise in and around Fort Worth, Texas and other cities throughout the Western United States. Adding SwitchPoint's Neighborhood Network(TM) technology to these franchises means WideOpenWest will achieve "fiber to the home" (100 megabits-per-second) performance at less than half the cost of actually pulling new fiber optic cable "from the curb" to individual users.

SwitchPoint's Neighborhood Network(TM) technology and its deployment throughout new fiber optic broadband networks, such as those being built by WideOpenWest, foreshadows an anticipated near-term upgrade path to one Gigabit per second and beyond. In addition, the WideOpenWest network is built to deliver true Open Access, and thus assure increased competition and continued service innovations. Open Access allows ISP's to access this platform and thus provide broadband Internet access to their current and future customers. WideOpenWest will thereby provide multiple services over its Internet networks, including broadband voice, video, and audio applications. According to Mark Haverkate, WideOpenWest president & CEO, "We chose to partner with SwitchPoint precisely because they offer an economical deployment package that features not only high-speed throughput, but reliability, scalability, and upgradeability."

About SwitchPoint Networks, Inc.

SwitchPoint Networks, Inc., formerly known as AirSwitch Corp., has developed a unique next generation solution for the "last mile bottleneck" using a technology implementation and network architecture that enables broadband Internet access at speeds of 100 Mbps. Unlike competing technologies, SwitchPoint-based networks are fully-duplexed and bi-directional, meaning subscribers can send and receive data simultaneously and at equal speeds. SwitchPoint digital networks can also be constructed for far less than the cost of competing technologies such as DSL, cable modems, and fiber-to-the-home implementations. This proven and commercially available Ethernet-based technology is suitable for residential and small business markets in the U.S. and abroad. SwitchPoint is licensing its network technology to companies who are building the infrastructure needed to meet the growing demands for broadband Internet access and communications services.
