Hightechhooper - Re: "IDC says U.S. notebook sales offset desktop decline"

This has tremendous significance for Intel.

Intel's Pentium III and Celeron completely dominate the notebook PC market in the commercial sector - with only a few scraggly AMD Kmart-62's as competition.

In the Business notebook segment, Intel's market share must be close to 97% (my estimate).

With ASPs for these mobile CPUs significantly HIGHER than their corresponding desktop "cousins", Intel's revenue may be augmented from these sales even as retail desktop PCs/CPUs sales drop.

The fact that Intel's design teams used Low Power Dissipation as a major design goal has helped them DOMINATE this segment - especially in light of AMD's speed-at-any-cost-power-be-damned AthWiper design.
