With Bush about to take the presidency on a fix rather than a fair election, there's no doubt in my mind you'll see those folks again. I don't think the Bushes--perhaps they do--realize the consequences of their actions.
The folks in Seattle weren't doing the unthinkable in America: They didn't break down the walls, doors and windows of an election board that was in the process of counting ballots!
Have you forgotten or did you never know your Dylan?
"Come senators, congressmen please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside and it's raging It's soon shake your windows, it'll rattle your walls --Oh, the Times They Are a Changin'!!!
If Bush gets elected, I suspect what's described above will be seen again with young and old united. Bush's campaign zealots did something that's not been done in recent America. What the folks in Seattle did different. You wanna pit the two forces against one another? That's dangerous.
If you let Bush steal this election without winning either the national popular vote or the electoral college vote, that's the table you're setting. Yes, let this happen and I guarantee ya, you're gonna see Seattle again! Folks won't take what Bush is doing easy.
'Tis far better to count all the votes; let the Florida Legislature assign 12 votes to both Bush and Gore; or do a coin flip. You really wanna see John Rocker, et. al. pitted against Greenpeace, et. al.? I don't. I'd rather we work through this together in a fair and reasonable manner. |
