I'm not stating that the exit polls were accurate, It was the exit polls that caused Baker to put into the place the tactic of trying to wrap up the election as quickly as possible. He knew from the polls that Gore was the likely winner. Do you really think it was an accident that "analysis" which caused the TVs to declare Bush a winner was done by Junior George's and Jeb's cousin? They almost had things sewed up when some other reporters who had access to the real numbers alerted Gore.

Since then it's been a game of chicken and bluster. That game can only carry on so long and so Baker is trying to indicate that there is some urgency, when we actually have time to spare.
