Cooters,

<Network Appliance holds about 40 percent of the NAS market, compared with EMC's 30 percent, according to IDC. >

Thanks for the article. These are the first updated share data I've seen since--

12/28/99

General acquisition. IDC recently
released results based on the first three
quarters of 1999 for the NAS market
as follows:
1998 Share 1999 Share
Network Appliance 41.4% 45.9%
Auspex 22.4% 10.7%
Compaq 13.7% 8.0%
EMC 7.9% 18.2% "

Looks like even though we've lost some share, most of EMC's gain has come at the expense of the smaller players. Also, isn't it true that current EMC NAS offerings are aimed at the high end, e.g. bigger bucks, that would increase their share with less actual unit sales? Do you think the impact of Chameleon is already factored in NTAP's price? Is it unreasonable to think we may see a positive move on Tuesday/Wednesday?
