For the record, MSFT makes the lion share of its money from the Office products (greater than 50%). And there are plenty of good comeptitors there (IBM/Lotus and Corel come to mind). The reason they are so successful is because the products are damn good. Only a "small" fraction is currently made from the OSs.

The reason MSFT is a good bet now, is because of what you state. The "small" fraction is about to grow into a huge fraction because of the success of NT. Here again there is a great competitor and that being Unix. However, Unix is so splintered that there is no real good development being done for it or any good marketing being thrown at it. NT will be successful only because it has someone strongly backing it.

Here's looking for MSFT to hit 252.
