The court proceedings appear to be run by a very competent and fair judge. Judge Sauls. I've never actually seen many trials, but he seemed like a real professional.

Bush's team decimated the statistical arguments put forth by the Gore team.

Nicholas Hengartner, professor of statistics at Yale, stat.yale.edu looked foolish as Bush's lawyer Beck took his statistical analysis apart bit-by-bit. Hengartner's position was that the greater undercount for Al Gore in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward Counties present a statistical anomaly that can only be explained by faulty punch ballots, when compared to optical ballots.

Under cross examination by Beck, Hengartner admitted he made no attempt to look at undervotes in any race but the presidency. Beck then took him to statistics 201 class and explained the difference between "an association" and a "causation" by using a football analogy.

Beck went on to show that Gore's lawyers had filed an affidavit (not signed) in his name that omitted portions of his testimony about the undervote. Beck then drilled him on inconsistencies in his analysis of a Governor/Senate race, and this presidential race.

Beck's cross examination certainly placed a huge cloud over his testimony and credibility. And clearly made the case that the Dems were full of B.S. and were trying to fool the courts.

A classic exchange ocurred when Hengartner was asked by Gore's attorney. "Where did you get this data," he answered "The Peoples Democratic Party.".

I almost felt sorry for the guy. He looked like a complete bafoon, unprepared by team Gore would would be an understatement.

Everyone at Yale University must be embarrassed tonight.
