Judge Burton didn't stall the PB recount, Boies stalled the PB recount, at least according to Judge Sauls. It was Boies who dragged Judge Burton off to court for a couple of hearings about the standards to be used and also lectured him about the standards to be used. In fairness to Boies, it didn't matter one iota to Gore if Palm Beach finished the recount unless they used the same standards used in Broward.
Judge Sauls was commending Judge Burton for being conscientious. Judge Burton, of course, is not a party to the litigation, so there is no reason for Judge Sauls not to commend him, is there?
I admire Judge Burton, too. I seem to recall that Ray liked Judge Burton, too, a couple of weeks ago.
But that was then, and this is now.
Boies made a serious tactical error in attacking Judge Burton in front of Judge Sauls. Bush's attorney was respectful and deferential, even though Bush would be better off without those couple hundred extra votes that Secretary Harris excluded.
Boies is seeking to impugn Judge Burton, the Palm Beach Canvassing Committee, the Miami-Dade Canvassing Committee, but his sole witnesses are the moron demographer witness-for-all-purposes, and the babe-in-the-woods statistician. If Boies had big guns, maybe he could get away with it. But he doesn't.
And with the US Supreme Court breathing down the neck of the Florida Supreme Court, does Boies have any friends, anywhere? He seems to think he can shit all over Judge Sauls and his buddies on the Florida Supreme Court will fix it and make it all better.
