Gore campaign victimized by old voting equipment and Republican machine style politics. The election contest provides an opportunity to tell the story how the older style voting machines make it more difficult for voters to punch through the ballots leaving dimpled cards. The preponderance of these older type machines in traditional Democratic areas caused a net loss of thousands of votes for Gore. The Republican machine style politics exemplified by K. Harris's arbitrary decisions to cut off the manual recount process, the Republican mob in Miami-Dade, the political pressure on the Miami-Dade canvassing board to suspend the manual recount, the deliberate Nassau County miscount, the obstructionist tactics of the Bush campaign all combined to cost Gore thousands of votes. This story will be told again and again every day by the media for the next four years. The Bush forces will be so busy trying to deny the truth, they will be unable to govern effectively. It will be interesting to watch.
