CNET has indicated a $209 as the lowest Palm IIIXe price for quite some time.

Typically rebates are offered to entice sales -- if the product alone isn't taking care of business. Many have assumed the IIIXes were selling alright.

On an off-topic: A couple of months ago Dell offered free financing at the end of the quarter in an attempt to generate sales -- and then reported disappointing numbers.

I don't think this is occuring with Palm, but why would the rebate be offered now? Why cut down on low margins as it is? A Palm sale does generate additional revenues with accessories, but this is unusual.

Having voiced my concerns -- I can state that I am thinking about picking up a couple IIIXes for holiday gifts.
