There was an article recently in Barrons that discussed the
interesting methods used by Gutnik to build his mining
fortune. He made lots of money on prevous ventures, and
probably has insulated himself from a Centuar failure -
bankers and shareholders may/will take the fall

> Recent mine closures so far: Refugio 220K, Homestake 200K, Andacollo 125K, Joe Mann 90K, Dee 60K.

All too small to have serious impacts, Refugio was already
down to a 180K annual level and Homestake was down to 160K
LEt's call it a 600K total drop, which will all be made up
by the Anglogold/Ashanti Geita mine which went online in
July 2000 at a 600K annual rate.

My quarterly mine production spreadsheet is showing a
relatively flat overall production level, with some slight
concentration beginning in the big miners (much more
mergers needed)
