We've got a potential Triple bullish whammy coming up in the next couple of weeks. It may be wise to stay away from adding to the short side. Here's the triple threat:

1) Mutual Fund cap gain distribution period will be ending. No one (except the clueless) adds taxable capital to mutual funds until they have distributed their gains for the year. That period usually ends in the next 2 weeks or less.

2) Gore is likely finished. When he concedes- a giant sigh of relief will resound throughout the land. Sentiment should improve immediately.

3) It looks like AG and the boyz will need to back off on the tightening bias. I believe they meet soon. So that's another potential pit fall for the bears.

Also- The news headlines are all bad. The stuff that bottoms are made of.

The only problems I see are 1) that Joe 6 pack has yet to capitulate for the most part. Of course he didn't capitulate in 1987 either, so that may not be a prerequisite, and 2) from a historical perspective, many stocks are still valued quite high.

So be short, but be ready for a triple flurry of blows. Maybe the bear can handle the blows. He's built up alot of strength in the last 6 months. <g>
