Philip, the facts surrounding the counting, and lack thereof, are being beat to death on CNN in the court case. No need to rehash here. Simple logic tells me that the GOP knows that a full recount would yield a Gore result, else the GOP would not oppose the recount but would urgently complete it so Bush could get on with the transition.

Just one example of the GOP efforts to avoid recounting is the appeal to the US Supreme Court by the Bush campaign. Very obvious that there is something in the count that certain parties would rather not be checked. The sad fact is that the votes will be counted sooner or later and could prove very damaging to the GOP future if it later is found that the will of the voters was suppressed.

Proper counting is simply examining the votes not counted by machine to determine if the voter CEARLY expressed an intent not picked up by the machine. A simple request to which any candidate in any election is entitled. (And "clearly" does not involve the use of a microscope, the intent must be obvious and unambiguous)
