The link below provides a list of Micorsoft's competitors. Take a look at the software companies on that list. Most (if they have earnings) have very high PEs. I'd say that the average PE of software companies is something like 50 - 100. MSFT's PE is sitting at around 30. That's not a lot of respect for the company that's by far the leader of their industry. ORCl is the closest comparison with a slightly lower PE. However, a big part of their sales is made up from service, not software. Also, I'm seeing a number of competitors catching up quickly with ORCL (MSFT and SEBL to name a couple). IMO, there should be greater concern that ORCL's growth could falter, than MSFT's.
