This is the sort of logic that I have been following on this thread: * CE has been improving. * Its graphics are great. * MP3 is a nice function. * Color is wonderful. * It runs Excel and Word. * Etc.... * ...... * Palm OS better copy CE. * But Palm is either too slow in copying or it's not able to. * Oh my god, this is Netscape all over again.
Let CE do what it wants to do. It would be fatal for Palm to follow CE. Look at what happened to Netscape, it focused too much on Microsoft being the enemy than creating superb business strategy. Do you think Yahoo! or AOL will have any chance to be this big, if Netscape were to focus on Internet connection and content service right from the beginning? Back in 1996, people even though Netscape was the Internet. Too bad that the Netscape folks spent too much time competing with Mircosoft. Palm is not falling in that trap, and is moving in full speed to release connected devices, better corporate support, ASP-based applications, and forging powerful alliances with Visteon, Sony, IBM, Oracle, Apple, and so many more.
The Palm management is looking at the advancements that Microsoft is making, but it's focusing on providing the best mobile computing platform, something that Microsoft again, appears to be falling behind. Remember, this war will not be won on the clients alone. It will be everything from enterprise support and ASP-based applications to connectivity and client. Only one with an end-to-end plan will win. At this point, Microsoft is not focused enough to deliver this solution. CE in itself is stretched in too many platforms. The SQL Server/Win2000 team maybe spending too much time on .net. And powerful enterprise solution providers such as Oracle and SUN may be the last people to work with Microsoft.
All I am asking this thread, and particularly you Advalorem, is to focus more on the big picture. "My $500 PDA plays MP3" will be the last reason that CE beats out Palm.
Just doing my job to balance the power a little bit.
