Whatever Voltaire's faults, it does strike me that he is motivated by a genuine desire to help others and see them prosper. As long as he attempts to do so from a basis of optimism and faith he will be frequently embarrassed, wrong in many specific instances, and perhaps even devastated on occasion. But in the long run he will likely prevail.

Dwelling in hatred, resentment, envy, and bitterness will no doubt win you a few gratifying victories from time to time, but it doesn't necessarily prepare you to succeed in your own right.
