My admittedly limited familiarity with him has led me to a distinctly different opinion of Herb Greenberg. It wasn't so much that he went after one of my holdings, but his methods were less than honest. In the few columns I read...

If you have only read a few columns, how have you developed the depth of understanding to decide that his position is dishonest instead of just a different opinion? In the years I have been reading him, there were many times I thought he was bang on, but there were other times that I have thought that he either missed some important point or became unduly exercised about something. Not that I have always been right on these calls either... clearly sniffing a questionable aroma about LHSP was a sound call beyond any question at this point. My sense, based on what I know today, is that he is off the mark on CREE, but I have trouble thinking that he has some agenda or malice in thinking what he does. Unfortunately, if a columnist smells a questionable odor and writes about it, he or she often then ends up shut out by the company, making it hard for them to come to a better opinion. One might wish that columnists ... not to mention analysts ... has a deeper sense of needing to pursue rumors through to deep understanding, but should we castigate one for doing what a whole profession does as a matter of course ... especially if his track record, on the whole, isn't that bad?
