I consider you to be a dear friend & your request (cease fire) has considerable merit (see below). I must however, strenuously disagree with several points you made.
Although bonnie has posts that share opinions on the market, etc., she has not stopped the personal attacks.... at best, she was removed form posting for a week or so, perhaps giving the false impression that she slowed or stopped it.
Considering the vicious forays by these folks to the moderated thread & the continuous invective from this thread, I cannot agree with your POV that indeed there were any meaningful changes. That "catty talk", at best, was slightly toned down personal attacks which was only masked by bonnie's forced absence. IMVHO, nothing changed other than the ring leader was forced into silence..... perhaps placing a bit of fear justifiably into those who wished to turn up the invective. I'm sure that future suspensions will be more & more severe if bonnie chooses to continue violating the TOS & verbally abusing people with or without her lies, distortions & intentional deceit. It was the fear of SI's TOS being enforced that had a chilling effect more than a desire to forgive & forget. Indeed, bonnie's return seemed to almost immediately increase the attacks yet again.
Wrong is wrong PERIOD! A softer version of wrong changes little. The lack of contrite behavior & the absolute lack of disdain for the malicious behavior combined with the continuing deplorable behavior clearly supports my POV.
I have absolutely no doubt that your post will be used as fodder against what I have stood up against. As much as I appreciate your POV & fully understand exactly where you come from, I do not appreciate your lack of support for what you know I have been attempting to bring to an end here. Unfortunately, your post may well assist in increasing this behavior.
That IMVHO is not balanced, regardless of your POV on freedom of speech. This is SI & we all agreed to the TOS. We paid good money to accept these terms & those who wish to violate the TOS, do so at their own peril.
As for your request, I would be more than willing to back off on this thread until Christmas..... unilaterally even...... on one condition......
Read each post on this thread since SI Bob's bookmark removal post again. Consider everything that was said..... & why bonnie was MIA & for what length of time..... & how that might have allowed perceptions to form that she actually reduced the number of malicious attacks..... & how this might explain why we saw more obtuse attacks after the suspension ended...... then consider when I first put my 2¢ in after SI Bob's post..... consider what has been posted by some of these folks on the moderated porch in that time. Then post your opinion of what you believe actually transpired & whether my replies here had merit or not.
I will trust you to be completely honest & balanced..... regardless of what you post.
If this is acceptable, I will agree to not post here until Christmas.
