Hi Carl - you sez "I am puzzled by why they would want to meet this Wednesday"

as I ve alluded to in my previous post, the smart ones are backing off

cnn.com

Florida's Senate leader has announced
he will not call a special session Monday
to deal with the selection of the state's
25 presidential electors. Senate
President John McKay's statement said
he would not make a final decision
about the proposed session until after he
reviews a report from the Legislature's
select-joint committee.

With regard to the statewide recount, the argument goes both ways with regard to "running the clock out." If the Bush camp agreed to it, the Gore camp would likely to jump on the oppty. Therefore, there would be no more wrangling. The art of the delay is to tie up the court system with endless lawsuits!

You got a point about the difference between now and 2 weeks ago. However, at the risk of sounding stupid, if the aforementioned scheme of running the clock is incorrect, I am sure the Bush strategists know what they are doing, whatever the rationale behind the decision.

With regard to the Seminole and Martin counties situation, evidently, VP Gore [on 60 Minutes] has adopted the argument I ve previously mentioned <VBG>. It is not about whether every vote counts, but the allegation that only Republican activists were allowed to do this and Democrats were not *invited*. However, I think this is not yet clear. While I ve lost the reference, one of the Republican activists have said he has also added the reg# for the democrat voters. Presumbly, he was under oath when he said that. However, it proves to cause more trouble than it can solve. Originally, it is said the Republican activists were using their own database, even though the work was done in the area with computer access [password secured] to the statewide database. It is doubtful the Republican activist's database include the Democrats' reg#. So, if not, there can be 2 conclusions. Either the activist was lying or he did use the state database, which might be more problem for Ms Goard!

Another unclear point is that did any of democrat requests got thrown out. If not, it is a moot point. However, if so, then these two cases are very much alive.

best, Bosco
