The only thing I would disagree with you on what you said, is that I think literal translation is good if the words, or actions, described were actually witnessed by the author. IMO, where so many Christian denominations have run afoul of my thoughts, it has been because of the interpretation, instead of the translation. In some cases, of course, it is like the four blind men describing the elephant.
