I think your example illustrates some characteristics of many people in general, which are the tendency to assume they are much smarter than they really are, things are much better than they really are, belief in the power of "good" vs. "bad" where good is whatever the person's ideals are. Religion, faith, geocentric views, or what have you are all symptomatic of this. Because Mathematics cannot be concretely applied to quantify any of these things, including Internet growth and its possible affect on untried business models to any degree of certainty, they are subject to the whim of individuals or individuals exhibiting herd behavior...and we know these individuals can very easily be wrong most of the time, about almost everything.

Sometimes I think that humans will hit a technological wall in many fields much sooner than anyone expects, only for the reason that so many expect unbridled advances. Then again, we may have molecular DRAM in 10 years, in which case MU is still a permanent short -ggg
