I think the Supreme Court ruling was viewed as not a loss to Gore according to his people. To me that means it was a loss to Gore if one reads between the lines.

I think Judge was going to rule against him anyways. Now I just think he took the opportunity to work on making his decision tougher to overturn. This supreme court thing was just his opportunity to justify taking a little longer in a decision that is supposed to done ASAP.

Now he can look at whether Gore's time limit for contesting was over. I just think he wants to avoid issuing a ruling against Gore that could be interpretted as saying that Gore's contest was made in time; setting up for appeal.
This way he can reject on two counts---
1. too late
2. without merit.
